Rothsay

Rothsay, a member of Maple Leaf Foods, is Canada’s largest rendering company and has been in business for over 50 years.

Rothsay operates six processing facilities across Canada that provide essential services for the efficient and environmentally responsible management of collecting, processing and recycling edible and inedible animal by-products. These six plants collect and recycle over 700 million kilograms of waste material each year. This waste is rendered and transformed into tallow, oils and proteins for use in animal feed, soaps, cleaners, cosmetics and Biodiesel.

Rothsay Biodiesel

Rothsay Biodiesel is a pioneer in biodiesel development.

In 2001, Rothsay began to operate a pilot plant co-located with our Montreal rendering facility producing biodiesel using recycled materials. During this time Rothsay’s Biodiesel was used to support additional demonstration projects such as Montreal’s BioBus and BioMer projects.

In 2005, Rothsay commissioned Canada’s first commercial-scale biodiesel plant with a rated capacity of 35 million litres per year. By 2008, the facility was producing at full capacity and today the plant is running well above nameplate capacity at a rate of 45 million litres per year.

Rothsay has developed extensive expertise in the manufacturing and use of biodiesel.

Rothsay Biodiesel is:

  • Reliability: a reliable business partner focused on customer service from the first point of contact to the delivery of product.

  • Quality: delivering some of the world’s purest biodiesel made from recycled materials.

  • Sustainability: operating a fully integrated value chain. Our biodiesel is created from recycled materials from our own rendering plants. The materials are brought to our rendering plant by a fleet running on the biodiesel produced from the very materials they are picking up.
